Datuk
Jamilah binti Sulaiman was born on 28 April 1956 in
Seria, Brunei. She has 2 children, Umi Klasum binti
Jawawi (Engineer with ExxonMobil KL) and Mohd Nizam
bin Jawawi (Businessman).
She
holds a Diploma in Secretarial Science and was a Secretary
at Brown & Root Pte Ltd (a US-based company) in
Labuan before venturing into full-time politics in 1992.
She
was the Vice-Chief of the PBS Women's Movement from
1986 to 1992 and headed the PBS Sipitang Women's Movement
from 1989 to 1992. Datuk Jamilah is currently the Head
of the Women's Movement of the Sabah United Party (Parti
Bersatu Sabah) since 2000 and also heads the PBS Sindumin
Division since 1992.
From
1990 to 1994, she was the Member of the State Legislative
Assembly for Sipitang and was subsequently appointed to
the post of Assistant Minister of Social Services.
She
is a life member of PEMADAM since 1990, Secretary to MUBARAK
since 2003, Vice Chief of the BN Women's Movement Malaysia
since 2003, Deputy Chief of the State BN Women's Movement
since 2004, Councillor with the Sipitang District Council
since 2007, President of Persatuan Wanita Anggerik Bersatu
since 2005, a life member of the Sabah Cancer Society
of Sabah since 2010, Deputy President of Majlis Pembangunan
Wanita dan Keluarga Negeri Sabah since 2008, and member
of the Sabah Child Welfar Association since 2010.
In
recognition for the services rendered to the community
and the State, she was awarded the ASDK (Ahli Setia Darjah
Kinabalu) in 2008 and the PGDK (Panglima Gemilang Darjah
Kinabalu) which carries the title "Datuk" in
2009 by the Yang DiPertua Negeri Sabah.
