Ministry Prepared To Help Set Up Kolej
KDM In Sabah
KOTA KINABALU, May 27 (Bernama) -- The
Higher Education Ministry is prepared to help realise the
setting up of the proposed Kolej Kadazandusun Murut (Kolej
KDM) in Sabah.
"We will always help facilitate applications to set
up new colleges or to enhance higher education in Malaysia.
"However, they must fulfil the criteria set by the
ministry....we welcome the setting up of Kolej KDM,"
said its Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Hou Kok Chung after meeting
with representatives of private higher learning institutions,
here, Friday.
Hou was earlier asked to comment on Deputy Chief Minister
Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan's announcement last Sunday
that Kolej KDM would be built in Kaingaran, Tambunan.
Pairin who is also Huguan Siou (paramount leader) of the
Kadazandusun Murut community in Sabah, had said that the
Tambunan District Officer had been instructed to identify
a site for the college.
He was also quoted as saying that he would follow up the
matter with the relevant authority to ensure the proposed
college could be set up.
The Kadazandusun Murut Welfare and Education Association
(Pekadin) had proposed the establishment of Kolej KDM in
Sabah to highlight the role of the community in education,
in line with the national vision of making Malaysia a developed
nation by 2020.
