Kuala Penyu To Host State-Level Pesta
Kaamatan Next Year
KUALA PENYU, May 23 (Bernama) -- The Kuala
Penyu district has been selected to be the host for the
state-level Pesta Kaamatan (harvest festival) in Sabah next
year.
Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan
announced this when opening the Pesta Kaamatan for the Kuala
Penyu district at Dewan Syahbandar Makang near here Monday.
Pairin, who is the chairman of the state-level Pesta Kaamatan
organising committee, said Kuala Penyu was selected based
on requests by the communities and leaders in the district
who had been pressing the state-government to be given a
chance to host the annual festival.
He said the opportunity to host the festival would also
give a chance to the Bisaya and Tatana communities, who
form the majority in the district, to showcase their unique
cultures.
