PBS welcomes opening up of BN membership

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 22 (Bernama) -- Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) welcomes the move by the BN to introduce affiliate and associate membership, with deputy president Datuk Dr Maximus Ongkili saying it encapsulates the government's 1Malaysia concept.

Ongkili, who is Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, said the move was among the initiatives taken by the BN to strengthen its position.

"I think it is a creative mechanism. Groups who are too small to form a party of their own, can become affiliate members to the BN and contribute to the party.

"I think it is a true pathway to heading towards 1Malaysia," he told reporters after opening the International Conference on Food Research, here today.

The BN approved on Saturday the amendment to its constitution to allow the direct membership.
