PBS' statewide campaign to attract youths to join
party
RANAU, Dec 24 (Daily Express) -- Parti
Bersatu Sabah (PBS) on Wednesday said it will embark on
a statewide campaign to attract the younger generation to
join the party so as to boost party membership.
Its Secretary-General, Henrynus Amin said throughout the
course they will be holding a series of seminars, workshops
and training courses in various parts of the state.
He said the aim is to educate young people on the istory
of the party's political struggle, vision for the future
and priorities in its political agenda.
He said this at the PBS Paginatan thanksgiving dinner last
Saturday in Kundasang and Karanaan.
"The training courses will focus on developing human
capital by developing correct mindset, character building
and competence," he said.
Henrynus said to be part of the ruling coalition is just
the beginning of the political struggle, as there are tangible
issues to be addressed and resolved if the party were to
win the hearts and minds of the people.
But to strengthen the party, he said priority must be to
reorganise, renew and reinvent the party from branch level
to Supreme Council level in line with the 1Malaysia concept.
He said the task is huge given the dynamic national and
local political environment.
"But I have confidence with the party as it has the
necessary political will and leadership talents and resources
to succeed as a political party," he said.
On the other developments, PBS Vice President, Dr Othman
Menudin, in his remark welcomed the 1PBS national campaign
introduced by the party to increase its membership starting
next year.
He said it is timel;y as it would rejuvenate and strengthen
the party.
However, he said the party may face difficulty to convince
people to join the party in areas where the local assemblymen
were not from PBS.
In this respect, he said there is a need for the Barisan
Nasional (BN) to produce and implement workable political
formula for BN component parties to enhance the existing
cooperation and working relationship to refelct true unity
at the national, state, constituency and branch levels.
He said that this was necessary in order to dispel the
notion of monopoly of power by certain political party representing
specific constituencies.
