NRD
officers arrest over MyKad forgeries indicate bigger problems
KOTA KINABALU, Jan 25 (New Straits Times)
-- The
arrest of a senior National Registration Department officer
and three others for allegedly selling fake MyKad to foreigners
could be an indication of a bigger problem.
Parti
Bersatu Sabah (PBS) secretary-general Datuk Radin Malleh
said there was a possibility that thousands of genuine MyKad
might have been illegally issued to non-citizens for a fee.
"The arrest
confirmed PBS’ suspicions on the possible involvement of
some NRD officials in MyKad scams,” he said in a statement.
The ACA had arrested
the four suspects in Papar on Thursday after several weeks
of surveillance.
Malleh, who is
also an assistant minister to the chief minister, called
on the ACA to conduct a thorough probe.
"All NRD
officials at the district levels should be investigated
and the guilty ones arrested and punished," he said.
The PBS has been
in the forefront of the fight against MyKad scams and the
problems posed by illegal immigrants.
Malleh said the
PBS would continue to speak up on the two issues and at
the same time channel its concerns to the authorities.
