Preserve
nation's independence: Pairin
KOTA KINABALU, August 31 (Daily Express)
-- Parti Bersatu Sabah President Datuk Seri Panglima Joseph
Pairin Kitingan urged all PBS members to celebrate Independence
Day and remember past leaders whose struggle, sacrifices
and contribution to nation building have made the country
what it is today.
Speaking at the
closing of the 22nd PBS Tamparuli AGM, he reminded Malaysians
that August has been dedicated as a special month to celebrate
and commemorate the struggle for Independence.
Pairin, who is
also Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Rural Development,
said the younger generation should be vigilant to preserve
the country's independence and work hard to ensure continuing
progress and development.
On the PBS political
struggle after 22 years of existence, Pairin said the party
is still relevant today as it was during its formation as
its political struggle is not over.
But he said PBS
is now a respectable component member of the Barisan Nasional
as part of the party's strategic approach to achieve its
objectives through political co-operation.
"We have
gone a long way together to help build the party and we
appreciate your steadfast support, courage, dedication and
contribution to the party struggle," he said.
Pairin urged
all members to work hard and make the necessary preparation
to win with a big majority in the coming election.
