KENINGAU, January 27 (New Sabah Times) -- PBS president Datuk Joseph Pairin Kitingan said he has never given his younger brother Datuk Dr Jeffrey blessing to join the opposition.
“If I had given him support then I should not remain in the Barisan Nasional (BN). I'll never do that because when we rejoined the BN, we have considered many factors why we should be part of the coalition,” he said.
Pairin who is also a Deputy Chief Minister added that he had never given any ‘confusing advice' to Dr Jeffrey as claimed by him. “I wonder how he could make such a claim. When he was appointed a senator and Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister, I did advise him not to contest in the general election in 1994.
“Yes, I did tell him that he need not contest as he was already a senator and a deputy federal minister but he contested in Kota Marudu against Datuk Dr Maximus Ongklili…and I campaign for Dr Maximus,” he said when handing over water tanks to villagers of Nuntunan Apin Apin here yesterday. Pairin said his brother was an educated person and should know how to assess his own action.
“When the BN took over power in 1994, Dr Jeffrey was even quoted by the media as saying that I am not smart enough and I don't know how to administer the state…only he is capable,” the PBS chief added.
Pairin reminded the people here not to be influenced by his brother's claim which the opposition, especially Keadilan, had used in their campaign in Keningau of late.
“The BN government is committed and capable of improving the people's quality of life and to bring the needed progress,” he pointed out. At the function yesterday, Pairin handed over 72 water tanks capable of storing up to 200 gallons each, to the villagers.
He also approved an allocation to repair the balairaya and to purchase 100 new chairs. Also present were Bingkor Assemblyman Justin Guka, PBS Bingkor chief Majabin Dalinus and PBS Liawan chief Robert Ungkau. |
