KOTA KINABALU, January 24 (New Sabah Times) -- Resource and IT Development Minister Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai has suggested that school from other countries should be invited to take part in English debates and public speaking competitions in Sabah via teleconferencing.

“The advancement of today’s technology has allowed us to communicate in real time through the cyber space.

“This is something we should not take for granted. We should remember that this is a facility that students should take advantage of in order to enhance your education,” he said.

He was speaking after witnessing the English debate and public speaking contest between Sabah Thsung Tsin Secondary School and Hong Kong Lee Kau Yan memorial School yesterday.

Describing the event as a historical moment for the two schools, Dr Yee said they had set a good example by applying modern technology to their advantage.

The debates discussed on the importance of health while the public speaking contest choose environment as an important global issue as the topic.

SM Tshung Tsin swept all the titles in the public speaking contest through Janice Ong who won for Best Content and Organisation, Averil Bachi (Best Use Of Languange) and Francesca Che Ying Yih (Best Delivery).

Lee Kau Man Memorial School won the debate when three of its students accumulated 246 points against SM Tshung Tsin’s 231 points.
