Heritage Walk can be another tourism lure: Yee
KOTA KINABALU, August 20 (Daily Express)
-- The Kota Kinabalu City Heritage Walk showcasing harmony
among its multi-racial people can become another tourism
attraction in the State.
Resource Development
and IT Minister, Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai, said such community
event in conjunction with the 50th National Day was most
welcome as it would further strengthen unity of the people
in the State.
"Apart from
the Heritage Walk, it also provides an opportunity to the
younger generation to know the original areas in the city
that had already been developed since independence,"
he said.
"An example
is Lintasan Deasoka located in the heart of the city which
actually was adapted from the Bajau language meaning underneath
the coconut tree that was originally located close to the
beach," he said.
Towards this
end, he hoped tourism bodies like Sabah Tourism Board, hotel
associations, among others, could play an important role
to promote the event next year.
The second programme,
organised by the Council of Churches Sabah and City Hall,
involved a mass 2.2km walkabout around the city, from Padang
Merdeka and ending at Seri Selera in Kampung Air.
Apart from that,
the programme also saw funds being collected for welfare
bodies as well as cleanliness campaign.
Also on hand
were Organising Chairman Lifred Wong and Sabah Council of
Churches Deputy President Jerry Dusing.
