PBS on late birth certs

KOTA KINABALU, July 20 (Daily Express) -- Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) wants the National Registration Department (NRD) mobile service to go along with the mobile court service to ensure the legitimacy of late birth certificate registrations.

Supreme Council member, Dr Chong Eng Leong said according to the Sabah Registration of Births and Deaths Ordinance, late registration of birth certificates (which is registration after 40 days after birth) must be verified by the Magistrate's Court.

The present practice of issuing late birth certificates to the people in the interior might pose a legal problem for them in the future, he said.

"Issuing the birth certificate of late registration without the Magistrate's Court verification is wrong," said Dr Chong.
