'Critics failed when they were in PBS'

KENINGAU, Dec 18 (Daily Express) -- Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) President Datuk Seri Panglima Joseph Pairin Kitingan hit out at the opposition, especially Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) for alleging that the BN Government failed in handling illegal immigrants and poverty issues in Sabah.

Speaking at a meet-the-people session at Kg Toboh Laut, Pairin said the opposition brought out old issues to confuse the people.

"If they are true leaders who want to help the people, they should do it long before when they were with us (BN)" he said, adding that many opposition leaders now active in spreading lies were those who once struggled with PBS and other BN component parties before.

"One of its leaders was even holding a top ministerial post in the Federal level and once in BN, but what has he done for the Sabah people? How much allocation had he given to Sabah when he held an important post in the BN government before?" Pairin asked. Pairin said the opposition could do nothing to solve the poverty and illegal immigrant problems in the State.

"After the failure and disappointment in their struggle with BN, these leaders come back with old issues, using the people as tools to fulfill their political agenda."

"When PBS was the opposition, many of them persuaded and invited PBS to re-join BN. But when PBS rejoined BN, the disappointed BN and former PBS leader criticised PBS and accused the party of having forgotten its original struggle.

"But truly, PBS is still with its struggle based on principles to protect the rights of the people, to solve illegal immigrant issues and to eradicate poverty, among others."

Pairin also praised the Prime Minister's leadership in wanting to bring more development to Sabah and Sarawak under the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP) allocation and 2008 Budget.

He urged the people in this State to unite and continue to defend the BN struggle under Pak Lah's leadership who gives top priority on the progress to all races in this country.

He said, the people need a peaceful, harmonious and prosperity government which could give them progress and development and only BN practicing power sharing among the ethnics in this country could do it.

At the function, Pairin launched the village's new concrete bridge and library building, and announced several development projects which will be implemented next year. Applications from 102 new PBS members from several villages in Mukim Tuarid Liawan were also accepted.
