We'll win every seat given

PENAMPANG, Nov 12 (Daily Express) -- PBS is confident it will retain all the seats it won in the last elections, as well as winning many more if given the opportunity.

Its President Datuk Pairin Kitingan, however, said he would leave it to the Prime Minister and Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for consideration.

He also stated the commitment and pledge of his oldest Sabah-based political party to continue working hard to ensure the BN's total victory in Sabah in the coming elections.

The party, which presently has 61 divisions and around 160,000 members statewide, represents the BN in 13 State and 4 Parliamentary constituencies.

Pairin also brought up the issues raised by his party that deemed important and needed utmost attention from the PM and Federal Government.

He said the party hopes all the allocations channelled to Sabah will be able to bring in economic development as desired.

"We are still lacking if compared to other states in Malaysia. Many areas in the Interior of Sabah are still without basic amenities like water supply, electricity, roads, better schools and housings," he said.

Pairin, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister cum Rural Development Minister, is confident if the development can be standardised much better it will help to reduce poverty, which is considered as more obvious in Sabah than any other states.

"Solving these socio-economic problems will definitely help to speed up the process of achieving Vision 2020," he said.

Besides that, he said the party also urge the Government to consider giving more translucent opportunity for those qualified and capable local people in Sabah to serve at the national administration level.

He said there are many in the indigenous communities in Sabah with high qualifications and capable of assisting the Government, including in formulating policies meant for the prosperity of the rakyat, but feeling the room for involvement are too tight and needs to be widened.

"We also hope that our bumiputea entrepreneurs be given more room and opportunity for them to show their respective talents. We always heard their grouses because the space given are very limited. I believe if the local entrepreneurs are given the opportunity and encouragement, they are actually capable to show high spirit of entrepreneurship, like the achievement of those bumiputra entrepreneurs in the peninsula," said Pairin.
