Screen
other squatters too
KOTA KINABALU, May 11 (Daily Express)
-- Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Youth hopes the State Government
will
set up
similar
screening
committee
like the Sri Tanjung squatters screening committee in other
such colonies throughout the state.
Its Chief Jahid Jahim said the Sri Tanjung squatters screening
committee chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Joseph
Pairin Kitingan, which recently completed its job, was
successful in terms of verifying the status of the squatters
there.
Pairin had stated that the committee would recommend about
1,522 squatters from the 2,134 applications to be relocated
to the Kinarut people's housing programme scheme to pave
the way for the expansion of the Kota Kinabalu International
Airport (KKIA).
Jahid, who is also Youth and Sports Assistant Minister,
said the committee managed to detect non-citizens at the
squatters' colony.
By setting up
similar committees, he said the "cleaning
up" process could be done better.
On behalf of PBS Youth, Jahid congratulated the police
for busting the operations of the so-called Angkatan Petugas
Pemantau Pendatang Asing Negeri Sabah (APPPA).
However, he said it might be just the tip of the iceberg
as there could be more out there.
All
employers should verify with the National Registration
Department (NRD) the documents of foreign workers before
procuring their service
