Tamparuli
gets RM31 mil for various projects
TAMPARULI, June 7 (New Sabah Times) --
The government has allocated some RM31 million for this
sub-district for various development projects under the
Ninth Malaysia Plan, including for youth and culture centres
and a sewerage treatment plant.
Speaking at the
launch of the meet-the-clients day of the Information Ministry
Sabah at the Tun Hamdan Hall here yesterday, Assistant Youth
and Sports Minister Jahid Jahim said this shows the government’s
commitment to raise the well-being of the people in the
state.
“That is why
it is our responsibility to support the Barisan Nasional
(BN) leadership for the sake of continued development and
political stability,” he said.
The programme
was hosted by Bernama Sabah, with the Special Affairs Department
(Jasa), Broadcasting Department Sabah and Information Department
also taking part. It also featured booths by the Anti-Corruption
Agency (ACA), Sabah Rubber Industry Board, National Registration
Department and Election Commission.
Jahid, who is
also Tamparuli asemblyman, urged the people to preserve
the prevailing unity for continued peace, citing the almost
clean sweep by BN in the last state elections (with the
exception being the Kuala Penyu seat won by an independent
candidate).
Jahid added that
the BN coalition has never lost a general election in the
past 50 years, and it extended its excellent record with
wins in four recent by-elections – in Pengkalan Pasir (Kelantan),
Batu Talam (Pahang), Machap (Malacca) and Ijok (Selangor).
Jahid urged the
people not to be swayed by opposition parties, saying they
are not able to implement their promises as “they do not
have a government”.
Earlier, organising
chairman and Bernama Sabah bureau chief Newmond Tibin said
the Information Ministry’s functions include disseminating
information related to development, economy and government
policies, besides enhancing the younger generation’s awareness
of the challenges facing them.
Also present
were Tuaran MP Datuk Wilfred Madius Tangau, Information
Department Sabah director Datuk Jumat Engson and his deputy
Haji Suwadi Guliling, Jasa representative Abdul Manap Lakariba,
Tamparuli ADO Edip Abun and ACA Sabah director Latifah Mohd
Yatim.
