PENAMPANG: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk
Joseph Pairin Kitingan called on the Kadazandusun Murut
(KDM) community to continue strengthening the unity and
spirit of loving cultural heritage through Sugandoi (KDM
songs contest) in line with this year's Tadau Kaamatan theme
of "Mitabang Mongomot Kovosian".
"Sugandoi,
as part of the highlights of the Kaamatan celebration besides
the Unduk Ngadau, has assisted in strengthening unity and
cultural heritage among the KDM people," he said.
The contest held
in every district and sub-district to search for the best
singer to compete in the final has also opened up an opportunity
for those talented to excel further, he said. "In the
process they also deepen knowledge of the mother tongue."
Pairin, who is
also Rural Development Minister, was officiating the State-level
Sugandoi final held at Hongkod Koisaan, here, Saturday night.
He also presented
prizes to this year's State-level Sugandoi champion, Arnold
Wences, from Tambunan, first runner-up Reynold Pagie of
Tamparuli and Norzainie Jobo of Kota Marudu, the second
runner-up.
