KENINGAU: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Joseph Pairin Kitingan said he could not understand why certain quarters, particularly the Opposition, are clamouring for changes that had already been implemented by the Government, geared towards the objectives of Wawasan 2020.

The programmes included targets for the eradication of poverty by the year 2010, he said, while addressing a meet-the-people session at Kampung Kodop Bunga Raya, here.

Pairin, who is also the Rural Development Minister, said the State and Federal governments had also established a strong pact to overcome the problem of illegal immigrants in Sabah, with appropriate measures.

On another note, he also disclosed that a seven kilometre gravity water supply project to the kampung, as well as the upgrading of the area's road stretching two kilometres would be implemented next year.

In this respect, the area's village development and security committee (JKKK) to further the necessary data to facilitate the District Office in making an estimation of the project, he said.
