KUDAT: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Joseph
Pairin Kitingan assured that the Government will continue
to assist the rural people in terms of economic development
through three objectives.
These
are to open up new economic opportunities to help the rural
communities generate additional income, to safeguard rural
social institutions and implementation of rural development
programmes involving the people.
Pairin,
who is also State Rural Development Minister, said this
while opening a Kampung/Kudat Zone Local Economy Development
Planning course at the District Office hall here, in an
address delivered by his Deputy Permanent Secretary, Abdul
Razak Datuk Haji Walid.
In this
respect, the rural communities must be prepared to change
their mindset in line with current developments that could
help improve their income, he said.
The
Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs) should
also strive to disseminate the necessary information towards
increasing public awareness on the need to co-operate with
the various government agencies on every development programme
and project that could fully benefit the people in general,
he added.
The
course was attended by some 100 JKKK members and chairmen
drawn from the Kudat, Kota Marudu, Pitas, Banggi and Matunggong
districts.
Also
present was District Officer Sebastian Lim and heads of
State and Federal departments.
