PENAMPANG: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) yesterday
declared its undivided support for Prime Minister Datuk
Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and his administration under
the Barisan Nasional (BN) Government.
Its
president, Datuk Seri Panglima Joseph Pairin Kitingan, said
the party views the premier's goals as in line with the
objectives and struggles of PBS.
"This
is obviously shown in the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP), which
is a specific plan to bring change for rural residents,
for example, by providing infrastructure, education and
job opportunities," he said at the party headquarters
in Donggongon here yesterday.
"There
is no reason why we should not support the Government, especially
a Government that was selected with a strong mandate from
the people in 2004.
"What
we need to see is the real situation and the true situation
to us is very encouraging. As long as programmes under the
9MP are carried out well and on schedule, it will do a lot
of goof for the people and our economy," he said.
Pairin
was speaking to reporters at the end of the PBS's first
meeting after their party congress held in September.
He said
Abdullah's objective in bringing change to the country is
to ensure much needed balance in development and opportunities
for the people.
"What
is needed is understanding from all of us and we are confident
the 9MP and the 2007 budget will be implemented well and
will strengthen our economy,' he said.
Pairin
meanwhile commended the BN Government's effort in tacking
the on-going illegal immigrant problem faced nationwide.
He noted
that while illegal immigrants continue to be a big issue,
the Government has been effective in its efforts in curbing
the problem.
