PAPAR: The relevant authorities, especially
the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID), have been
urged to expedite the flushing of the irrigation system
here as it was affecting the livelihood of padi planters
in three villages.
Parti Bersatu
Sabah (PBS) supreme council member, Johnny Mositun said
the clogged irrigation was causing water to stagnate in
an estimated 100 acres of padi fields in Kampung Novoung,
Limbahau and Takis here.
Speaking at the
opening of the PBS Limbahau branch annual general meeting
here on Saturday, Mositun who is also Pantai Manis divisional
chief said although the planting season started since early
last month the irrigation was yet to be cleared.
He was made to
understand that the project had been awarded but since nothing
had happened, he said the authorities should look for a
win-win solution for the benefit of the padi planters in
the three villages.
At the same time,
Mositun called on the respective village security and development
committee (JKKK) chairmen to furnish reports to the relevant
authorities so that action could be taken.
He sympathised
with the affected padi planters who had to delay planting
due to the problem.
