TAMBUNAN: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Joseph
Pairin Kitingan said that Tambunan will host the launching
of the State Kaamatan (Harvest) Festival celebrations, on
May 1.
In this
respect, various events would be lined up to make the occasion
more memorable to local and foreign visitors, who will include
homestay visitors from Australia and South Korea.
Disclosing
this while addressing a goodwill New Year gathering here,
on Friday, he said that an even more challenging programme
would make its debut in May.
According
to him, the proposed Mount Trus Madi Climbathon would be
even more challenging than the current annual Mount Kinabalu
International Climbathon.
He also
said that the various kampungs and districts would be holding
their respective Kaamatan celebrations in February, March
and April as a prelude to the main celebration in May.
He hoped
that the relevant Government departments and agencies would
be placing greater emphasis on preparing for the occasion
as a means of attracting more visitors to the district.
Pairin,
who is also Rural Development Minister, also said that several
activities would include a Balik Kampung Programme and sporting
activities like open badminton championship, soccer and
golf tournaments.
