KENINGAU:
Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Joseph Pairin Kitingan,
assured rural communities that they can turn their villages
into places of interest for tourists without jeopardising
their farming routine.
“People
in the interior just need to understand the basic working
operations of tourism and after all these are activities
that can supplement their income,” he said.
The
green and natural panorama of rice fields and rivers are
just some of the examples he mentioned that help to attract
visitors.
“With
such natural beauty, we can attract visitors into the villages
whenever groups come to the interior districts… we can even
sell rural products to them,” he said when speaking at a
ceremony to distribute chairs to 15 Village Security and
Development Committees at Kg Tagai last Friday.
Pairin
who is also the Minister of Rural Development pointed out
the matter when referring to the development plan for Kg
Tagai under the Bumburing Rice Field Scheme.
Meanwhile,
on the Prime Minister’s scheduled visit to Kg Bayangan on
Dec 12, he said it was an opportunity to showcase the village’s
traditional practices such as Tagal or seasonal fishing.
Kg Bayangan
emerged as champion in the national level best village competition.
