KOTA
KINABALU: The National Service training camps have
improved vastly with newly built barracks and more facilities,
a member of the National Service Training Council, Henrynus
Amin, said Wednesday.
He assured parents
that their children were in safe hands as they would be
escorted by the military to the training camps.
There would be
six training camps in Sabah, handling about 400 trainees
each, when the new batch began their three-month stint on
Dec 13, he said in a statement here.
Urging the 7,060-odd
Sabah youth born in 1987, who were selected to undergo training,
to respond to the call, he said there was no exemption except
for the physically handicapped.
"Those accepted
into Form Six or A Level or tertiary level will be considered
for deferment but not exempted. They are to register at
a later date upon completion of their education," he
said.
Those who failed
to show up would be reported to the police and charged in
court and could be fined up to RM3,000 or jailed six months.
He said pre-arranged
transport was provided for trainees on Dec 12 at several
pickup points throughout the state.
Trainees are
to complete their stint entirely at training camps.
