KOTA KINABALU: Api Api Assemblyman Dr Yee Moh Chai
said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Salleh
Said Keruak has assured to tackle the housing problems in
the state.
He said
the Minister gave the assurance when he called on him at
his office here yesterday.
Dr Yee
who is also PBS Deputy President said he raised the issue
of consent clause that has been unfairly used against house
buyers in most sales and purchase agreements. “And the Minister
in response, assured he will direct his housing controller
to look into the matter so that in the future the consent
clause will be fair and reasonable to the house buyers.”
On the
developers’ refusal to provide an account of management
fees and deposits collected, Dr Yee said Salleh had also
agreed to direct his housing controller to ensure there
would be a specific clause in future agreements to state
that house buyers have a right to the account.
He added
that in the meantime, the Minister has appealed to housing
developers to provide the account to the house buyers.
On the
issuance of strata titles, the Minister has also promised
to do all he could to speed up the issuance of these titles.
“In
fact the Beverly Hill apartment purchasers will get their
strata titles soon as I was told by the Minister that the
titles are now being printed,” Dr Yee said.
He hoped
that the developers adopt the right attitude towards the
strata title issue.
According
to him, the Minister also said developers should act as
trustee during the period when they are the interim management
corporation.
“And
if they do their work professionally, then the problem the
house buyers faced today would not have occurred,” Dr Yee
said.
Meanwhile,
he said the Minister would meet with the developer of the
Peak Condominium to resolve some issues which the buyers
have raised.
