PBS
: Dompok Should Speak the Truth
Kota Kinabalu, Thurs. - Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) today urged
chief minister Tan Sri Bernard Dompok to stop misleading the people
regarding past political events of the state because Sabahans are
intelligent and know the real truth.
Its
deputy president Dr. Maximus Ongkili said that recently the chief
minister had been making comments about past government actions
or happenings by twisting facts and shirking responsibility.
"A
classic example is Dompok’s statement that the delineation of the
new election boundaries was discussed between the BN and the opposition
parties to which apparently everybody agreed.
"The
chief minister has conveniently forgotten that as the PBS deputy
president in 1993 Dompok chaired the special task force on constituency
delineation and spearheaded the party’s objection to the new delineation
on grounds of ‘Jerry Meandering’ and racial bias," he claimed.
The
Bandau member of parliament further alleged that together with other
PBS leaders at that time, Dompok also voiced his objections to the
new delineation through public statements as well as comments in
parliament.
"How
could Dompok say that the opposition parties agreed to the new delineation?
Dompok either has poor memory or he is purposely practising sef-denial,"
he charged.
Dr.
Ongkili also said the so-called "development achievements" of the
present BN government published by a research agency were nothing
more than mere rhetoric because "the government has
totally failed to fulfil the promises of Sabah Baru,
a phrase not even mentioned once in the 1999 State budget."
He
claimed that whatever achievements made were the results of the
economic foundations laid by the PBS government, particularly in
the areas of tourism, industrial development, environment and agriculture.
"Specifically,
it is nothing but a great rhetoric for the government to claim there
has been a dynamic civil service during the present government’s
term of office.
"The
fact is that the bulk of civil servants are demoralised because
countless have been displaced, demoted, set aside as ‘consultants
with no job specifications’, scolded publicly by inconsiderate BN
politicians, and deprived of government quarters due to the failed
housing project in Tanjung Aru."
Dr.Ongkili
said it had been demonstrated over and over that the Barisan Nasional
government was good in talking and making promises but hopeless
in delivering the goods, adding that "judgement day is just around
the corner when the people will have the opportunity to clean Sabah
from the political mess created by the present government."
