M'sia, PNG agree on ICT Joint Committee

, March 27 (Daily Express) -- Malaysia and Papua New Guinea (PNG) have agreed on the formation of a Joint Committee on Information and Communication Technology (JC-ICT).

This was agreed upon by Malaysia's Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Maximus Ongkili and PNG Minister for Communication and Information Patrick Tammur in Port Moresby Wednesday.

They spoke at a joiont news conference after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on ICT at the State Function Room in PNG Parliament, witnessed by PNG Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare.

The joint committe would work towards realising the aspirations and the intent of the two countries as expressed in the MOU.

The JC-ICT will be co-chaired by PNG's Department of Communication and Information and Malaysia's Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry.

The committee is tentatively scheduled to have its inaugural meeting here in May, to be attended by senior officers from member aganecies of the two countries.

The statement also noted that Dr Ongkili and Tammur had expressed full staisfaction that Kuala Lumpur and Port Moresby have laid the foundation for mutual technical cooperation in the field of ICT.
