MIMOS Wants Sabah ICT Fraternity To Adopt Technology Platforms, Applications

KOTA KINABALU, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Institute of Microelectronic Systems (MIMOS), the country's leading applied research organisation in information and communications technology (ICT), wants to see more ICT community in Sabah adopting their technology platforms and solutions.

President and Chief Executive Officer Datuk Abdul Wahab Abdullah said the government has invested substantially for the creation of technology platforms and it will be a waste not to use it.

"We don't want Sabah to be left behind on progress. We've about 21 technology platforms, we want to encourage local players in Sabah to pick up and use the applications and solutions to serve their customers," he told reporters after opening the Technology Sharing Forum here Thursday.

Abdul Wahab said MIMOS had conveyed the message to Sabah Minister for Resource Development and Information Technology Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai who was receptive to the idea.

He said Sabah was fortunate to have Universiti Malaysia Sabah recognised as one of the centres of excellence, an advantage as other states don't have such facility.

In April, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and MIMOS launched the Centre of excellence at Semantic Agents to develop expertise in semantic technology and support the growth of the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC).

Abdul Wahab said MIMOS is currently focusing on six technology clusters, namely advanced informatics, grid computing, information security, knowledge technology, microsystems and micro-electronic mechanical system and communication technology.

Earlier, in his opening address, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili said MIMOS has been working closely with the state Economic Planning Unit on technology and competency development programmes, plus funding and cost risk mitigation with the UMS and Sabah Foundation.

The text of his speech was read out by Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister's Department Datuk Radin Malleh.

The technology forum is aimed at wooing more technology recipients among Sabah's indigenous industries to take up MIMOS frontier technology platforms to enhance their product and service offerings to the global market.

It is also to identify more research and development collaborators from Sabah.
