Sabah’s Kota Marudu gets RM500m under 10MP

KOTA MARUDU, Dec 7 — The Kota Marudu District Development and Action Committee has identified several development projects costing RM500 million for submission to the government for implementation under the 10th Malaysia Plan.

Kota Marudu MP Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili said today the projects to provide public amenities and basic infrastructure were necessary for the district, which is one of the poorest in the country, to catch up in development as well as to uplift the living standard of the people.

One of the major projects was a RM200 million flood mitigation plan as floods were a perennial problem for Kota Marudu, he said after attending the committee meeting here.

Other crucial needs of the district were three secondary schools — SMK Bandau, SMK Langkon and SMK Marak Parak — a dual carriage road for Kota Marudu town, Jalan Samparita to connect 10 rural villages in the Sg Magandai area, an old folks home, a sports complex, a community college and district police headquarters.

“Kota Marudu needs these infrastructures and amenities to catch up with other districts.

“I hope the state and federal agencies, as well as the economic planning units at the federal and state levels, will support our request,” said the science, technology and innovation minister, who will personally submit the proposal to the state government for consideration.

He said the committee was coordinating the identification and submission of the proposed development projects to the respective ministries.
