Government Told To Cancel Dubious
MyKad Of Foreign Immigrants
PENAMPANG,
Oct 31 (Bernama) -- The president of Parti Bersatu Sabah
Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan proposes that the government
cancels all identity cards obtained by foreign immigrants
through dubious means.
He said
the move was necessary to combat the 'Project IC' issue
frequently raised by various parties in the state including
the opposition.
Pairin
said PBS also wanted the process of changing to the new
identity card next year to be further clarified.
"We
do not want the process to be used to legitimise cards which
were obtained through dubious means especially in Sabah.
"We
want additional or supporting documents such as the birth
certificate to be attached when processing the change of
identity cards. This is to ensure only qualified people
or locals could obtain the new identity card," he said
in his presidential address at the 26th PBS Delegates Conference
at KDCA Hall, here Monday.
He hoped
the Federal government would take the proposal by PBS in
good faith to set up a Royal Commission of Investigation
on illegal immigrants in Sabah next year.
Pairin
said PBS also wanted the setting up of a Philippines Consulate
in Sabah to be expedited to facilitate the processing of
travel documents of Filipinos.
On the
13th General Election, he said the PBS was confident that
it could contribute to the victory of Barisan Nasional for
seats allocated to the party.
