Parliamentary Select Committee May
Address Validity Of Electoral Roll

KINABALU, Aug 18 (Bernama) - The establishment
of a Parliamentary Select Committee may hopefully address
issues pertaining to validity of the electoral list.
Deputy
Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan said he was
confident the public welcomes establishment of the committee
that will ensure compliance with election rules and the
correct method to register voters.
"It
takes into account all matters raised by certain quarters,
including the opposition who are dissatisfied with the electoral
system.
"We
hope that issues like phantom voters, non-Malaysian citizen
voters and deceased voters will no longer be raised,"
he told Bernama here Thursday.
Pairin
was commenting establishment of the committee announcement
by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in an effort
to improve the election process in the country.
The
committee provide an opportunity for members of parliament
from the opposition engage in discussion in the committee
to ensure transparency and meet expectation of all quarters.
Establishment
of the Parliamentary Select Committee would also enhance
the image of countries that practice democracy.
Pairin
hopes that the plan to allow Malaysian students abroad to
vote would be given indepth study to prevent a dispute such
as postal voters.
