No problem winning all interior seats

KENINGAU, Dec 14 (New Sabah Times) -- Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Joseph Pairin Kitingan has reiterated his optimism that the Barisan Nasional (BN) will be able to make a clean sweep of all the state and parliament seats in the interior of Sabah in the coming general election.

The government, he said, has no problem winning all these seats as the people have benefited much from the development projects it implemented, although some projects have yet to be implemented.

“Although the opposition parties allege that the BN has failed to bring development to the people, the reality is that the government has already brought much development,” he said at a meet-the-people session attended by some 1,000 residents at Kg Batu 24, Mukim Meninipir on Wednesday.

The government, led at federal level by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and at state level by Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman, has good intentions in bringing development to the people, he said, adding BN’s struggle is to bring development to the people, unlike the opposition parties whose intentions are not clear.

He cited Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), which he said is only interested in winning the posts of Prime Minister, deputy Prime Minister and Chief Minister.

Pairin, who is Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president and Rural Development Minister, said support from the people in the interior for BN will ensure continued development in their area.

Also present were PBS deputy president cum Resource Development and IT Minister Datuk Dr. Yee Moh Chai; PBS secretary-general cum Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Radin Malleh; PBS Youth chief cum Assistant Youth and Sports Minister Jahid Jahim; Liawan PBS divisional chief Robert Ungkau; Liawan assemblyman cum Keningau Umno chief Datuk Sairin Karno; PBS Kg. Batu 27 branch chief cum organising chairman Kapitan Lee Tek Soon; PBS Supreme Council members; heads of departments, BN component party leaders as well as local community leaders.

Pairin later received 216 applications to join PBS from its Keningau, Kg. Limbawan, Kg. Damai and Kg. Liawan branches.
