‘Tambunan has seen much development
in three years’
KOTA KINABALU, Oct 5 (New Sabah Times)
--- Tambunan district has seen much development for the
past three years, said State Rural Development Minister
Datuk Joseph Pairin Kitingan.
In a
live interview with Sabah FM in the programme ‘Rancangan
Bersama YB Anda’ which was aired over RTM yesterday, Pairin
said that RM105 million was spent for Tambunan during the
period.
Pairin
who is also the Tambunan assemblyman said the focus of development
was building infrastructures.
He added
that villages that were once impassable by vehicles had
since been connected with roads and water supply has reached
them.
“We
also have given extra electricity supply to few villages
that never had power,” he said adding once more funds were
made available other villages would also get proper power
supply.Pairin added that the government would not neglect
its responsibility in providing better facilities to the
people.
For
the hardcore poor, housing would be extended to them, he
said.
He also
pointed out on the implementation of the MESEJ (Mini-Estet
Sejahtera) where the poor would be given land to farm and
cultivate crops.
“Rubber
trees will be planted in an area of 300 acres in Tambunan
and 30 heads of households will be relocated to the area
where they will take up the programme.
“It
will remove them from the clutches of poverty,” he said
adding that the programme was for the whole state.
On tourism
development in Tambunan, he said that the government would
build road to link Kg Patau to Sungai Mahua Waterfall which
can attract visitors to Tambunan.
At the
same time, agricultural roads would also be built to allow
farmers to send their crops out.
